I strongly recommend that children new to violin playing begin by renting their instrument. It allows children to progress through the instrument sizes without repeatedly large costs to the parent/s, and as all the instruments I rent out are properly set up with good quality strings your child will enjoy playing far more than if you were to repeatedly buy cheaper instruments from the internet.

I have a variety of student level instruments available to rent for between £15–35 per month. More information coming soon, but please do get in touch if you are interested as I am able to send images of current stock. Delivery of instruments also available by arrangement.

Instrument Sourcing

If you are looking for a new (or second hand) violin for a beginner but aren’t sure what you’re supposed to be looking for and need advice, I’m here to help.

Minor repairs and set-ups

A proper set up for your violin/viola/cello is vitally important to the playability and sound of your instrument. I recommend having your instrument regularly checked for issues. Below are the most common repairs/maintenance I carry out for clients:

  • Bridge adjustments (usually to lower the action)

  • Soundpost resets

  • Peg adjustments

  • String changes

  • Closing open seams or cracks

Please note, if you have very valuable instruments which require advanced or very complicated repairs, I may recommend that you take it to a luthier with more years of experience.
